i guess size does matter...

i love the yarn.

i love the pattern.

i love the sock.

the sock however does not love my leg...in fact it wants to strangle my leg (i'm not sure what offense my leg committed, but the sock is not happy). the sock is just too tight. i was really hoping that it would loosen once washed and blocked, but i think i need to rip it.

so...my options.

1. reknit sock on larger needle. i'm a little apprehensive about this as i love the way the yarn knits up on the current needle.

2. rework pattern to add width. i can add in another repeat (this will add about an inch).

oy.

That sock sure is beautiful. Oy indeed. I feel your pain. I had to rip mine out because it was too big.

Can you just close your eyes and hope that your sock pal has little bitty skinny toothpick legs?

But if you do have to rip... well, I'd probably swatch on a larger needle and see how I liked it, and go with the extra pattern repeat if I didn't like it.

I love the sock, too.

I hope you can work it out.

I love the sock. I am thinking, a sock should rather be a little too tight than too wide. It will widen in time. All my socks do. Just a thought.

I suggest finishing that pair of socks for someone with small feet (perhaps to be found later) and starting new socks for your pal. They are awful pretty to rip...

I had to rip out the first sock I started for my pal for the same reason. Don't get discouraged...just go up a needle size and consider this a practice run.

Before ripping, try the sock again on the larger needles (or with the added repeat) using the other skein. Don't frog this beautiful sock without knowing for certain the change is going to work; if you can't come up with a change you're happy with, then as a previous commenter said, knit a different sock for your pal and finish these as a future gift for someone.
